The OVA dub is decent, but Parn's English VA in Chronicles episode 1 was so deadpan, it made me shudder. Thank goodness Crispin Freeman was in it. They changed a lot of English VAs throughout the series. Disliked the Chaos Ring movie.

In all fairness, I can understand where the actor playing Parn was coming from in his approach of the character, but I felt it took him at least nine episodes to finally get into the mature aspect of Parn despite the occasional odd delivery. I liked him much better in the OVA though; he had a lot more enthusiasm.

I just watched both.

I have to say both were pretty good, however I went with subs in the end.

The point where I decided the subs were better is in episode one

And it's interesting to note that both dubs came from Central Park Media. I've never seen the Utena dub, but Lodoss War is nowhere near that quality. In fact, it's solid for the most part, just a bit awkward in places.

Keep in mind that the awkward moments are on account of the dub being from 1996. Otherwise, there's nothing bad I can say about it; Parn, Deedlit, Wagnard, Ghim, Karla, Slayn, Woodchuck, the Narrator, and Ashram all have good, solid English VAs.
